The owners should just put it out of its misery and pull the plug.

Yeah fair play. I know a few people who moderate other forums which are quite strictly policed and it basically takes over all their free time.
Once you set a precedent you have to stick to it and before you know it you’re going through hundreds of posts a day, every day.
Don’t get me wrong, I do like the freedom of expression that’s allowed on the whole.

Online interactions can be a serious thing.
But for good or bad, I would say pretty much all of us are old enough to have experienced real life stuff that is a lot more serious.
Disagreement is always going to drive the most traffic and if that is the primary purpose for someone's posts, so be it.

Yup- also agree with that. We all do know what's expected!
I feel the only difference is that when someone called you a fucking cunt or similar 4-5 years ago, it was probably done with a chuckle or slight tongue in cheek over random things. Nowadays it feels more like it's been done while red faced and frothing at the mouth with rage over innocuous things like 'Who should play at right back out of Kehrer and Coufal' for example.

People on here get very spiteful and personal on a thread about crisp flavours. But its always been like that.
I am picky now as to who and what I debate with and about as there's a lot of posters that just abuse for no reason.
But as Ray said, if you don't like it then don't log on. Its not hard

I often wonder with the increase of political threads whether it's just the aging of the demographic or it's the sense of marginalisation and censoring amongst that demographic. Even football crowds have to watch what they say, so a place like this forum is one of the few places left where people can be themselves. Things that were just banter are now politically loaded. But yeah I know I risking politicising this thread so I'll shup up on that.
I offer no explanation for the aggression. I'm not a long-time poster like some others, but I found it very aggressive from day one.

This has gotten said a lot over the years.
It's not as lively as it was. I think it's a shrinking/ageing population.
There are a few other issues likely affecting it as well.
As mentioned the proliferation of political threads and the aggression/arguments on them spilling out onto loads of other threads and taking those over is a big turn off for a lot of people. And it's just never ending.
That aggression has spilled over into how people generally talk to each other. The banter used to be much more good natured and almost affectionate but now the simplest of things like offering a different opinion on something is met with a bizarre amount of proper anger and aggression from some posters. Again I wouldn't be surprised if people are turned off from posting by that. What's the point in posting a perfectly fair and measured bit about a certain player or formation if you're just going to be called a fucking clueless cunt or similar, written with actual bile rather than any sense of humour or tongue in cheek. The art of debate on here which used to be great has been a bit lost.
I know the site takes pride in being very loosely moderated and I know the mods don;t want to be spending hours on it, but a tiny bit more probably wouldn't go amiss. Given some of the things I've read in the last couple of years, you REALLY have to go some to get a ban now.
